
Dietitian
I am Dr Emily Porter, a HCPC registered dietitian experienced in managing functional gut symptoms, such as those related to IBS. This includes support with a low FODMAP diet if indicated. I work holistically with clients to achieve their nutritional aims, whether this is related to a diagnosed condition, symptom management or to improve overall health and wellbeing.
I started my career working in research, and after completing a PhD in virology, worked on several research projects exploring the links between immune responses, viral infection and microbiomes (both the gut and respiratory). I now put this knowledge into practice as a dietitian, working with private patients and in the NHS as a specialist diabetes dietitian.
My interests lie in how the gut microbiome underpins so many other areas of health, from metabolism to the immune system to mental health, and how disruption in any of these areas feeds back to the gut. I have shared my knowledge at scientific conferences, am also a health and science writer, as well as providing specialist corporate services and volunteering for the IBS Network.
I am committed to delivering evidence based, patient centred care, which considers all aspects of a client’s lifestyle to help them live life to the full.
